During the grape harvest, a physically demanding task, it was essential to feed workers and families with rich, substantial meals full of flavour. That is how a gastronomic tradition was born — one that still defines the region today: dishes prepared with respect for the ingredients, the land and the knowledge of those who cook them. A heritage that remains alive and reveals itself today in every meal.

Faith and Blessing of the Harvest

It is also during the grape harvest, in September, that one of Northern Portugal’s most emblematic expressions of faith takes place at the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Remedies. Wine producers and workers from the region, whose lives depend on the vineyard, climb the monumental staircase in an act of devotion, asking for protection and blessing for the harvest. It is a ritual that spans generations and reinforces the deep connection between the Douro, the land and spirituality.

Our tour begins at the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Remedies, with a guided visit to the church, the gardens and the monumental staircase.

The experience then continues at the table. With the Douro before us, we set off on a journey through the region’s most authentic flavours, in a lunch where each dish tells a story.

After lunch, we continue along one of the most emblematic stretches of the N222, accompanied by the Douro River and the vineyard landscape winding along the slopes.

To conclude, you will be welcomed at a boutique winery, where you will discover the estate and the wine-making process. The experience culminates in a tasting of carefully selected wines, in a calm and immersive setting, where you can savour the true taste of the Douro.
